Student Attendance Policy

  1. Attendance Requirements
    1. Minimum Attendance Threshold
      1. All students must maintain minimum 85 percent attendance in each registered course during a semester.
      2. Attendance is calculated separately for each course component.
    2. Definition of Attendance

      A student is marked present only if they:

      • Arrive on time, and
      • Remain for the full duration of the class session

      A student is marked absent if they:

      • Arrive more than 20 minutes late
      • Leave early without instructor approval
      • Fail to attend any scheduled session
      • Are present but refuse to participate in mandatory academic activities.
  2. Recording of Attendance
    1. Attendance shall be recorded by the instructor at every class meeting.
    2. The method of recording (roll call, digital system, sign-in sheet) is determined by the department.
    3. Falsifying attendance records, including proxy attendance, is considered academic misconduct.
      Such cases will be forwarded to the disciplinary committee for strict measures.
  3. Consequences of Low Attendance
    1. Warning Level

      When attendance falls below 85 percent, the student receives an official warning from the department.

    2. Probation Level

      When attendance falls below 85 percent at any point:

      • The student is placed on attendance probation
      • Parents/guardians be notified/ called on campus.
  4. Ineligibility for Final Examination

    If attendance remains below 85 percent at the end of the semester:

    • The student will not be allowed to sit in the final exam (subject to approval from the affiliating body).
    • Scholarship Cuts (as per approval of the board of directors)
    • Fine will be applied to those not on scholarships.
  5. Misconduct Related to Attendance

    The following actions are severe violations:

    • Proxy attendance (signing or answering for another student)
    • Tampering with attendance records
    • Providing false medical or legal documentation

    Penalties may include:

    • Disciplinary probation
    • Suspension
    • Expulsion in severe or repeated cases
    • To be Referred to Disciplinary committee
  6. Appeals
    1. A student declared ineligible for exams due to attendance shortage may file an appeal
      to the office of Director General within three working days of notification.
    2. Appeals must include:
      • Documentary evidence
      • Justification for exceptional consideration
